It's Not All Beer and Skittles

Last night I threw my legs up on the couch, spent. Dancing, wine, singing half known lyrics loudly, with gusto – perhaps too much gusto. Pouring out everything, everything that had come before. Sweating and then wandering out into the darkness and the sharp night air to marvel at the stars and the full, full moon returning then, again for more.

New Beginnings and Home Comings

Well Hello There You

It's wonderful to be here again, and after such a long time. Is it crazy to be jumping back into blogging this year, after a three or more years away? Possibly. Probably. Who cares? I'm throwing caution to the wind. And yet that makes it seem un-calculated, spontaneous. It is not. I have thought long and hard about whether to come back, and why I stopped in the first place. Here's what I have learned.

Why My Laptop is Living in My Jumper Drawer

So here's the thing.  I'm keeping my laptop in a drawer under some jumpers.

I'm not on Facebook at the moment, haven't posted anything on Instagram in like, forever (or about a month which is the same as forever in Instagram terms) and Twitter basically doesn't exist for me (which probably doesn't count because I don't really understand Twitter anyway.)

Dear Lena

Dear Lena,

Your autobiography Not That Kind Of Girl is written like a guide for young women.  It reminded me of Dolly, an Aussie teen mag for girls.  Did you read Sassy?  Kind of like that, but less bad ass.  Oh wait, you're probably too young for Sassy.  Teen Vogue?  But less rich girl.  Girls' Life?  Whatever.  You get the idea.

{Happy} New Year

It's the first morning of 2016.

2015 has been a bit of a weird one for me.  I won't say it was a disaster.  Not completely catastrophic.

Because I like to keep things in perspective.

:: :: :: Four Birthdays, One Wedding and an Anxiety Attack :: :: :: {or One Hundred & Two Days}

Well.  I can't say I don't know myself.  102.  Quite a big number.  That's the number of days since my last post.  And I've spent a little bit of time beating myself up about that.  Even wondering if that was it.  Maybe I'd never post here again.  The end of One Small Life?  But something, a little niggle, a little itch, couldn't let that happen.

Lean In

Ever since the advent of that Sheryl Sandberg book Lean In I've had the phrase in mind.  It's kind of pervasive in that way.  Which is weird for a couple of reasons.  Not least of which is that I haven't actually read the book.  Also because I think the book (from what I've heard) is all about women leaning into their careers and I'm a stay at home mum.

Speed of Life

I know I have been banging on about this a lot lately.  And I'm sorry for repeating myself.  I really am.  But.  (You knew that was coming, right?)  But.  I just cannot get over the speed at which life is travelling of late.

This year!  Where has it gone?  Almost June already, the middle of the year.  Life is hurtling along and I really feel like I cannot keep up.

Christmas, Consumerism & Chadstone Shopping Centre

Too Much?

I reckon we do a pretty minimalist Christmas.  But it's all perspective and context I guess.

Like when I think about how many toys my kids have, on one hand I don't think they have an excessive amount.

Backwards {10 Inspiring Organisations Doing Great Things}

Sometimes I think we are living backwards.  Chasing after all the wrong things.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by everything I hear on the news.

Mostly I feel helpless to do anything about anything.  And that's a really crap feeling.

Seeking Balance

I have been feeling so out of balance lately.  Swirly.  Not in a good boysenberry ripple choc top at the movies kind of way.  More in a can't find clear space in my mind or in my life kind or way.

Worry Worry Smile

There are a lot of worried looking people around.  Don't you think?  So many frowns and furrowed brows I see as I go about my day.  I'm not judging.  There's a pretty healthy crinkle in my forehead too.  But sometimes I just wonder, what are we so worried about?

Little Things

Every now and then I notice that the little things in life become bigger than they need to.

The last week and a half has been one of these weeks.  I don't know why this is.  Why all of a sudden do I feel overwhelmed and on edge?  Nothing major has changed and yet small things become a tipping point.  Frustration is at the ready.

Riding the Wave

Sometimes I feel like I'm operating at a higher frequency.

By which I mean not that I am somehow above anybody else, but rather that my needles are jumping.
